Ed Sheeran Reveals Why He’s Leaving the UK to Move to America

Ed Sheeran has opened up about his decision to relocate to the United States, revealing that family and career commitments are behind the move.

The global superstar, known for hits like Shape of You, currently resides at his Sheeranville estate in Suffolk with his wife, Cherry Seaborn, and their daughters, Lyra, five, and Jupiter, three. With an estimated net worth of $350 million, Ed has amassed a significant property portfolio, including at least 27 homes in London, according to UK Estates.

His real estate investments extend internationally, with a reported $12 million purchase in Brooklyn Heights, New York, and an £8.25 million office block in Soho. These acquisitions suggest that Ed’s move to the US may also include new property investments.

Ed Sheeran Confirms Move During Podcast

During an episode of the 2 Johnnies podcast, Sheeran explained why relocating to the US made sense for both his music career and family life.

“I’m just about to move to America. I feel like I might be the only person moving to America,” he admitted.
“I’m going on tour there for a while and I have a family, so I can’t dip in and out. We’re going and settling there.”

While he hasn’t confirmed his exact destination, the singer has previously expressed his love for Nashville, Tennessee, calling it his “favourite city in the States.” In an interview with the Call Her Daddy podcast in April, he shared:

“When you transition to country, you can’t transition back. It’s always been my end goal to move to Nashville and transition to country.”

Cultural Roots: Feeling More Irish Than British

Although Ed Sheeran was born in Britain, he has often described himself as culturally Irish. Growing up, he spent much of his childhood in Ireland due to his father’s Belfast roots.

“I class my culture as Irish. I think that’s what I grew up with,” he told The Louis Theroux Podcast.
“My first musical experiences were in Ireland; we grew up with traditional music in the house. So I identify culturally as Irish, but I was obviously born and raised in Britain.”

Ed emphasized that cultural identity is personal and fluid:

“I don’t overthink it, but I do feel like my culture is something that I’m really proud of and grew up with and want to express. And I feel like just because I was born in Britain doesn’t necessarily mean that I have to just be [British].”

With family priorities and a busy touring schedule, Ed Sheeran’s move to the US seems like a natural step in both his personal life and professional journey. Fans can expect the singer to continue making headlines, not just for his music, but also for his life across the Atlantic.
