Diddy Blasts Netflix’s New Documentary, Calling It a Shameful Hit Piece

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs is pushing back hard against Netflix’s upcoming documentary series Sean Combs: The Reckoning. Just one day before its global release, the music mogul publicly condemned the project, calling it a “shameful hit piece” that uses “stolen footage” without his approval.

Diddy Denounces Netflix Over Alleged Unauthorized Footage

According to a spokesperson for Combs, the documentary includes personal footage that was “never authorised for release.” The representative claims the material was taken out of context and misused to fit a damaging narrative. As reported by Variety, Combs believes the series aims to sensationalize his legal history rather than present a balanced or fair portrayal.

The teaser for the series features a phone call recorded just six days before Diddy’s 2024 arrest. That recording later became part of legal proceedings in which he was convicted of transportation to engage in prostitution, while he was acquitted of sex trafficking and racketeering charges.

Netflix and the Director Respond to the Accusations

When questioned about the footage, Netflix pointed to a statement from series director Alexandria Stapleton. She clarified that all material was obtained legally and that the production team has the proper rights. She also noted that Combs has documented his life extensively for decades and that filmmakers attempted to contact his team for interviews, but received no response.

Stapleton emphasized that the team protected the original filmmaker’s identity due to safety concerns.

Combs’ Team Pushes Back Against Creative Control and Motives

Combs’ spokesperson argued that the documentary manipulates years of personal archive footage he has collected since age 19. The footage, they said, was meant for Combs to tell his story in his own voice, not for Netflix to reinterpret.

The statement also referenced Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos, noting that Combs “long respected” him and expected a more impartial approach. Additionally, Combs’ camp criticized rapper 50 Cent, a producer of the series, calling him a long-time adversary with a “personal vendetta.” They expressed shock that Netflix allowed him creative control.

What the Documentary Claims to Explore

Sean Combs: The Reckoning, which premieres on December 2, is being promoted as an in-depth look into the life and controversies surrounding the music mogul. According to the official synopsis, the series examines Combs’ rise to fame through Bad Boy Entertainment, his influence on hip-hop culture, and the darker allegations described by former associates and employees.

The series promises never-before-seen material and exclusive interviews with people who were once inside Combs’ inner circle. It aims to explore both his empire and the troubling behavior some claim existed behind the scenes.

Conclusion

As the documentary premieres, the clash between Diddy and Netflix continues to intensify. Whether viewers see the series as a revealing investigation or a biased portrayal, it is clear that The Reckoning has already sparked major controversy before its first episode airs.
