Eva Longoria Teases Possible Desperate Housewives Revival for 20th Anniversary

Could Desperate Housewives return to Wisteria Lane? Eva Longoria hints the door isn’t entirely closed — especially as the show’s 20th anniversary sparks fan excitement.

More than a decade after Desperate Housewives aired its final episode in 2012, star Eva Longoria has once again stirred speculation about a potential revival of the beloved ABC series. With the show having celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2024, fans are eager to know if the iconic residents of Wisteria Lane will make a comeback.

A Look Back at the Iconic Series

Desperate Housewives, which premiered in 2004 and concluded in 2012 after eight successful seasons, was created by Marc Cherry. The dramedy followed the scandalous and dramatic lives of four women in the fictional suburban neighborhood of Wisteria Lane.

Eva Longoria portrayed Gabrielle Solis, one of the show’s lead characters, alongside Teri Hatcher as Susan Mayer, Marcia Cross as Bree Van de Kamp, and Felicity Huffman as Lynette Scavo. The show became a cultural phenomenon, blending mystery, humor, and drama — and garnering numerous awards and a global fan base.

Eva Longoria Is Ready — But Is Marc Cherry?

Speaking recently on Watch What Happens Live! with Andy Cohen, Longoria, now 50, said she’d be “the first to sign up” for a reboot. However, the real challenge seems to lie with the show’s creator. When asked who would need the most convincing, she didn’t hesitate: “Marc.”

“He feels like we’ve exhausted the characters,” Longoria explained, suggesting that Cherry believes the story has already been fully told.

Comparing It to Sex and the City

Longoria contrasted Desperate Housewives with Sex and the City, which has returned in multiple formats including films and the rebooted series And Just Like That. “It’s unlike Sex and the City, which was only like six or eight episodes a year. We did 24 episodes a year for a decade,” she noted.

Joking about her character’s many romantic escapades, Longoria quipped, “I can’t sleep with any more people on that street. I’ve slept with every single person on the street!” Fellow guest Sandra Bernhard chimed in, teasing the idea of a half-season return, prompting Eva to joke about whether her character ever had relationships with women on the show.

What Does Marc Cherry Think?

Marc Cherry, now 63, hasn’t ruled out a reboot entirely. In an interview with People last year, he admitted he has “a couple of ideas” about revisiting Wisteria Lane — but suggested it may not involve the original cast.

Reflecting on the creative freedom the show allowed, he said, “It was the most fun playground. We owned the whole street.” Cherry even mused about setting a reboot in the past, perhaps in 1966.

However, he remains cautious, saying a revival would need “a really good artistic reason.” “At some point,” he added, “I’ll sit down with someone and go, ‘Okay, let’s talk about if there’s a good enough why to do it.’”
