Madonna’s Twin Daughters Return to Malawi: A Heartfelt Journey Eight Years After Their Adoption

Madonna, the Queen of Pop, has long been known for her music, but she is also deeply committed to philanthropy. In a rare and touching revelation, the superstar opened up about her twin daughters, Estere and Stella, and their profound connection to Malawi—the country where they were born and adopted from in 2017.

In a recent interview, Madonna shared insights into how her daughters’ return to Malawi has shaped their perspectives. “The girls have a lot of empathy for vulnerable children in need of life-saving medical care,” she told, highlighting how grateful they are to have access to proper healthcare—something not readily available to many children in Malawi.

Madonna’s Lifelong Commitment to Malawi

Madonna’s bond with Malawi extends far beyond her personal connection through adoption. In 2006, she founded Raising Malawi, a charitable organization dedicated to improving the lives of orphans and underprivileged children through healthcare, education, and social programs. Through this initiative, she met Estere and Stella, leading to their adoption in February 2017. Since then, she has remained dedicated to making a tangible difference in the country.

A major milestone of her mission was the establishment of the Mercy James Centre for Pediatric Surgery and Intensive Care, which opened in 2017. Named after her adopted daughter, Mercy James, this was the first pediatric hospital in the country. Madonna’s contributions to healthcare in Malawi have provided life-saving treatment to thousands of children who otherwise might not have received proper medical care.

Strengthening Family Bonds Through Philanthropy

Madonna believes that her charitable work has strengthened her relationship with her children, creating a shared purpose. “We are so much closer because we have a common goal, and that is making Malawi a better country for kids to grow up in,” she shared.

Madonna’s family includes her biological children, Lourdes, 28, and Rocco, 24, as well as her adopted children: David Banda and Mercy James, both 19, and twins Estere and Stella, now 12. The entire family actively participates in Raising Malawi’s initiatives, underscoring their deep-rooted commitment to humanitarian efforts.

A Growing Legacy of Giving Back

Beyond her direct contributions, Madonna has launched new initiatives to encourage others to support Raising Malawi’s mission. In March 2025, she introduced the Raising Malawi Partners program, allowing supporters to make monthly contributions. These funds help provide critical medical care at the Mercy James Centre. In return, partners receive exclusive content, updates on the organization’s impact, and opportunities to win Madonna-related merchandise and experiences.

Madonna has often reflected on the emotional and life-changing experience of adoption, describing it as an unexplainable connection. “It’s like saying, ‘Why do you fall in love with the people you fall in love with?’ You look into the eyes of somebody, you feel their soul, you feel touched by them—that’s it,” she previously explained.

As Estere and Stella continue to embrace their Malawian heritage and contribute to their mother’s charitable missions, their journey is a testament to the enduring bonds of family and the transformative power of giving back.
