Taylor Swift Reportedly Taking a Step Back from Blake Lively Amid ‘It Ends With Us’ Controversy

The Friendship May Be Under Strain Due to Ongoing Legal Drama

Even the most enduring celebrity friendships are not immune to Hollywood’s ever-evolving scandals. Reports suggest that Taylor Swift has been distancing herself from Blake Lively, following the legal battles and controversies surrounding the upcoming film It Ends With Us. The drama has placed Lively and her co-star/director Justin Baldoni in a heated dispute, with Swift reportedly feeling dragged into the mess—unwillingly.

According to insider sources, Swift is “really hurt” by the situation and believes she has been used as a “pawn” in the ongoing feud between Lively and Baldoni.

The Legal Battle at the Heart of the Controversy

The tension stems from a legal battle that began when Lively filed a complaint with the California Civil Rights Department on December 20, 2024, accusing Baldoni of fostering a hostile work environment, including inappropriate comments and boundary violations. Shortly after, Lively’s team launched a federal lawsuit against Baldoni, her husband Ryan Reynolds, and their publicist Leslie Sloan, accusing them of extortion, defamation, and invasion of privacy.

Baldoni responded with legal action of his own, filing a $250 million libel lawsuit against The New York Times and a $400 million civil suit against Lively, Reynolds, and Sloan. In his filings, he claimed they attempted to take creative control of the film by allegedly threatening false harassment allegations and using their celebrity influence to pressure him.

How Taylor Swift Got Pulled Into the Drama

While Swift’s name was never directly mentioned in the court filings, a series of alleged text messages between Lively and Baldoni were included in the lawsuit. The messages reference Lively seeking script rewrites and mentioning “dragons” that protect her—seemingly a nod to Reynolds and Swift, both of whom wield immense power in the entertainment industry.

Baldoni’s legal team claimed he felt “pressured” to accept Lively’s changes due to the influence of her husband and her “mega-celebrity friend.” This subtle implication was enough to spark speculation that Swift had been unknowingly inserted into the drama, much to her frustration.

Swift Reportedly Keeping Her Distance

The Anti-Hero singer is known for her loyalty to close friends, but insiders suggest she has been taking a step back from Lively and Reynolds since the controversy erupted. A source told Page Six that Swift “wants nothing to do with this ordeal” and is actively “keeping her distance” from the couple.

One telling sign of this possible rift? Swift notably did not invite Lively to the Super Bowl earlier this month, despite having a long-standing tradition of spending major events together. This fueled speculation that she is purposefully distancing herself to avoid being further entangled in the controversy.

A Friendship on Pause?

Swift and Lively have shared a strong friendship for nearly a decade, often celebrating holidays together, supporting each other’s careers, and collaborating creatively. Lively even directed the music video for Swift’s I Bet You Think About Me, further cementing their bond. Just last year, Swift threw Lively a lavish 37th birthday party, highlighting their close connection.

However, with legal tensions mounting and Swift’s desire to remain uninvolved in Hollywood feuds, it seems she is choosing to step back—at least for now. While it’s unclear if this distance is temporary or permanent, one thing is certain: Taylor Swift has no interest in being a supporting character in a behind-the-scenes Hollywood battle.
