Jamie Lee Curtis is once again making headlines for her outspoken views on beauty standards in Hollywood. Speaking at the 36th Annual Palm Springs International Film Awards and later in an interview, the Oscar-winning actress didn’t hold back when discussing the cosmetic surgery industry.
Jamie Lee Curtis Calls Out the Cosmetic Industry
Curtis, 66, admitted that using the word genocide to describe plastic surgery and cosmetic enhancements may sound extreme, but she stands by her choice of words.
“I’ve been very vocal about the genocide of a generation of women by the cosmeceutical industrial complex,” she explained. “I use that word specifically because it’s strong. I believe we have wiped out a generation or two of natural human appearance.”
The “Freaky Friday” star has long been candid about beauty standards. Years ago, she posed makeup-free in her underwear for a magazine cover to show her authentic, unaltered self.
The Rise of AI Filters and “Artificial Beauty”
Curtis also linked the rise of cosmetic enhancements to the growing influence of artificial intelligence and social media filters.
“The concept that you can alter the way you look through chemicals, fillers, or surgery has disfigured generations of predominantly women,” she said. “Now AI is aiding that, because people want the ‘filter face.’”
She continued, “I’m not filtered right now. But if I add a filter and show the before and after, of course, people will say, ‘Oh, that looks better.’ But better is fake.”
Jamie Lee Curtis on Hollywood’s Endless Cycle of Plastic Surgery
Although vocal about her personal stance, Curtis emphasized that she doesn’t criticize other celebrities who choose to undergo cosmetic procedures.
“I would never say to someone: what have you done? It doesn’t matter,” she explained. “But it is a never-ending cycle. Once you start, you can’t stop. That I know.”
Accepting Aging in Hollywood
This is not the first time Curtis has spoken out about aging naturally in the spotlight. During a 2024 appearance on Today, she explained her philosophy:
“I’m very much in acceptance of what I look like, and I own what I think and feel. That, to me, is what maturity is. You own it, you say it, and you mean it — without being mean. That’s how I’m growing into my old age.”
Jamie Lee Curtis: A Voice for Authenticity
As Hollywood continues to push unattainable beauty standards, Jamie Lee Curtis remains a strong advocate for authenticity and self-acceptance. Her message is clear: real beauty comes from embracing who you are, not from chasing artificial perfection.
