Fifteen-year-old British actor Owen Cooper has made Emmy history by becoming the youngest-ever male acting winner at the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards. Cooper took home the award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for his role in Netflix’s hit miniseries Adolescence. The ceremony took place on September 14, 2025, at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, California.
Owen Cooper’s Groundbreaking Win
Competing against seasoned actors such as Javier Bardem (Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story), Rob Delaney (Dying for Sex), Peter Sarsgaard (Presumed Innocent), Bill Camp (Presumed Innocent), and Ashley Walters (Adolescence), Cooper emerged victorious.
His portrayal of Jamie Miller in Adolescence not only marked his breakout role but also cemented his place in television history.
An Emotional Acceptance Speech
In a heartfelt acceptance speech, Cooper expressed his disbelief and gratitude:
“Standing up here is just so surreal. Honestly, when I started these drama classes a couple years back, I didn’t expect to even be in the United States, let alone here. But I think tonight proves that if you listen, focus, and step out of your comfort zone, you can achieve anything in life. I was nothing about three years ago. I’m here now.”
His words resonated with the audience, highlighting his humility and determination.
What’s Next for Owen Cooper?
Following his Emmy win, Cooper’s career is rapidly accelerating. He is set to play Callum in the upcoming BBC drama series Film Club and has also been cast as Young Heathcliff in Emerald Fennell’s highly anticipated adaptation of Wuthering Heights, alongside Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie.
With these projects lined up, the rising star is poised to continue making waves in the entertainment industry.
