Elvis Presley may have left the building in 1977, but for decades, countless fans have refused to believe it. Conspiracy theories still swirl around the King of Rock ’n’ Roll, claiming he faked his death to escape the pressures of fame.
Now, his former wife, Priscilla Presley, has finally addressed the rumors once again — and her words leave no room for doubt.
Fans Still Believe Elvis Is Alive
Whenever a legendary star dies, denial quickly follows. From Michael Jackson to Elvis, wild claims often emerge, suggesting they are secretly alive and living in hiding.
For Priscilla, however, these whispers are more than just idle chatter. They resurface constantly, despite the decades that have passed since Elvis’ death at just 42 years old.
“There’s been so much that’s untruthful out there — things like Elvis is still alive and hidden somewhere,” she told.
And then came the heartbreaking truth: “I wish he was still alive.”
Priscilla Remembers the Day Elvis Died
Priscilla has spoken before about that life-changing phone call in 1977. Speaking to Entertainment Tonight in 2005, she recalled racing home, fearing something was wrong.
“The phone was ringing. It kept ringing and ringing. It felt like one of those horror movies when your hands are shaking so badly you can’t even find the keyhole,” she said.
On the other end was Elvis’ road manager, Joe Esposito.
“It was forever for him to tell me, and then he said, ‘It’s Elvis,’” Priscilla recalled. “I knew right then and there that something horrible had happened.”
She described the moment as “like waking up from a nightmare, hoping to wake up and say, ‘This is a joke.’”
Life After Elvis
Priscilla and Elvis were married from 1967 to 1973, after meeting in 1959 when she was just 14. Together, they welcomed one daughter, Lisa Marie Presley.
Looking back, Priscilla admits she never imagined her future during those early years. “I met him at such a young age I didn’t have time to think about life yet,” she said. “But I love every moment.”
Today, she reflects on her journey in her new book, Softly, as I Leave You: Life After Elvis.
The King Lives On Through His Legacy
Though Priscilla shut down the rumors that Elvis might still be alive, she also reminded the world of his timeless impact. Elvis may no longer walk the earth, but his music, his legend, and his story live on forever.
As Priscilla summed it up, “I wish he was still alive” — a sentiment millions of fans continue to share.
