Jennifer Aniston Stars in I’m Glad My Mom Died – Apple’s Boldest Series Yet

Jennifer Aniston is set to star in and executive produce a new Apple TV+ series based on I’m Glad My Mom Died, the best-selling memoir by Jennette McCurdy. The announcement was made by the streaming platform on July 1.

A Bold New Dramedy Based on McCurdy’s Memoir

The upcoming 10-episode dramedy will be adapted by McCurdy herself. She will also serve as executive producer and showrunner, alongside Ari Katcher—known for his work on Ramy and The Jerrod Carmichael Reality Show.

Jennette McCurdy’s 2022 memoir offers a raw and unfiltered look into her life as a child star. Best known for playing Sam Puckett on iCarly, McCurdy reveals the psychological toll of being pushed into fame by her abusive mother, and the lasting emotional scars that followed.

Jennifer Aniston Cast as the Narcissistic Mother

In the Apple TV+ adaptation, Jennifer Aniston will take on the powerful role of the narcissistic mother. The storyline will focus on the codependent relationship between an 18-year-old actress on a hit children’s TV show and her manipulative mother, who thrives on her identity as “a starlet’s mom.”

Aniston, who already has an established relationship with Apple TV+ through her Emmy-winning series The Morning Show, is continuing her collaboration with the platform. The Morning Show returns for its fourth season on September 17.

A Story of Healing, Truth, and Artistic Expression

Jennette McCurdy, now 33, has been candid about why she wrote I’m Glad My Mom Died. In a 2022 interview, she shared that she felt “compelled to write” the memoir, not only to process her own trauma but to help others heal from theirs.

“It felt necessary,” McCurdy said. “Writing helped me process my complicated grief. My mom didn’t deserve for me to miss her—she was abusive. But now, thanks to therapy and the support from readers who connected with my story, I’m finally able to miss her without the burden of anger.”

The adaptation of her memoir promises to bring this emotional journey to the screen, combining dark humor, emotional depth, and a powerful message about reclaiming one’s voice after abuse.
