Leonardo DiCaprio to Star in Martin Scorsese’s Adaptation of Marilynne Robinson’s ‘Home’

Martin Scorsese continues to expand his impressive filmography with another high-profile project. Apple Studios has officially acquired the film adaptation of Marilynne Robinson’s acclaimed novel Home, with Leonardo DiCaprio set to star and Todd Field on board as writer and producer.

A Powerhouse Collaboration

Scorsese will write, direct, and produce the adaptation, collaborating with Todd Field, a multi-Academy Award nominee. The film is part of Apple Original Films’ larger endeavor to bring Robinson’s Gilead novels to the screen.

The production lineup is equally star-studded, with Scorsese’s Sikelia Productions, DiCaprio’s Appian Way Productions, and LBI Entertainment—run by Scorsese and DiCaprio’s longtime talent manager Rick Yorn—all involved. While details about adapting the remaining books in Robinson’s trilogy are yet to be confirmed, Field was previously reported to direct Gilead, with Kent Jones helming Jack.

A Deeply Personal Story

Unlike Scorsese’s recent epic projects, Home is expected to be a more intimate, character-driven film. The novel follows Jack Boughton, a troubled alcoholic who returns home after 20 years of estrangement. As he struggles to reconcile with his deeply religious father, Reverend Boughton, he also develops a close yet complicated bond with his sister, Glory, who has her own painful past.

DiCaprio’s Packed Schedule

While the project is officially in development, production may take time to commence. DiCaprio has a busy slate, including shooting Damien Chazelle’s next film this summer and promoting Paul Thomas Anderson’s latest project. Given these commitments, filming for Home might not begin for a while.

Scorsese’s Ever-Growing Project List

At 82, Scorsese shows no signs of slowing down. In addition to Home, he is developing an untitled Hawaiian crime film starring DiCaprio, Dwayne Johnson, and Emily Blunt—a project Netflix is reportedly leading the race to acquire. Other potential films in his pipeline include Devil in the White City, The Life of Jesus, Sinatra, and The Wager.

With so many projects in the works, it remains to be seen which film Scorsese will tackle next. One thing is certain: the legendary filmmaker is determined to leave an indelible mark on cinema while time allows.
